Almost everyone can save money with Railcards
There’s a perception that train fares are expensive. And they can be. They can also be phenomenally confusing.
But one thing every carefree car-freer should have is a railcard.
Most people think you need to be a student or in some other minority group to have a railcard.
WRONG!
As long as you travel in the South East of England, anyone can get a Network Railcard.
It costs £30 and is valid for you and up to three people travelling with you. You can easily save the cost of the railcard within the first couple of trips.
However, if you are in one of the minority groups targeted, then a specialist railcard will be better as these cover the whole country. These are:
Age 16-17
Age 18-25
Age 26-30
Age 60 over (Senior)
Veteran
Disabled
All of these railcards are good for individuals.
Then there are two final railcards that depend on the group of people travelling together.
A “two together” railcard gives a discount if you are travelling with any named individual. So good for couples but also good if you often travel with a particular friend.
A “family and friends” railcard works if a group of people is travelling together that includes at least one adult and one child. The adult needs to be one of two named adults on the card so ideal for a family group.
All these railcards cost £30 and are valid for a year. The discounts are typically 33% off for adults and 60% off for children.
If you haven’t got one already, get one now!
